Pupils are expected to attend school if they are well enough to do so. If a child is unwell then parents need to telephone the school office before the start of the school day on the first day of absence. Parents will be asked when they expect their son/ daughter to return to school. If the pupil is unable to return on the specified date then the parents need to contact the school again giving a new date of return.
Schools are not able to give permission for holidays taken in term time. If a child is not in school for any other reason than being unwell then the absence will be recorded as unauthorised (except in exceptional circumstances).
Whittington Church of England Primary School has an attendance target of 96.6% attendance. If a pupil's attendance falls below 90% a pupil is classed as a 'persistent absentee' and a letter will be sent to parents to inform them of this attendance issue and the expectation from the school would be that attendance rates rose after the letter was issued.
