Modern Foreign Languages

On Monday 1st July we opened the doors to the annual French Club cafe. It was a super event, well supported by our parents and families.

Our Year 6 pupils led the event with children from Years 3 and 4 performing a song and role-plays to demonstrate how to order in the cafe.

We finished our gathering with Evie and Jenna leading a game of Loto (Bingo!).

'Merci beaucoup' to our fabulous French Clubbers for their enthusiasm throughout the year and hard work that made our cafe such a success! Bravo!

Year 3 French Performance

On Wednesday 19th June our Year 3 children presented what they have been learning in French this year to their parents and the children of our Reception Class and Key Stage 1.

They sang a few of their favourite songs,  had a question and answer session, then peformed Sur le Pont D'Avignon.

We finished off teaching our audience Frere Jacques, then we sang it all together in a round! C'etait Magnifique!

Visit of NWHS Language Leaders

On Wednesday 5th December we welcomed a group of Language Leaders from Nunnery Wood High School to Whittington to teach a french lesson to each of our Key Stage 2 classes. They taught them some food vocabulary so that they could buy items from the supermarket.

Our children enjoyed playing 'LOTO' and 'Splat' and enjoyed sharing their own language skills with our visitors.

On Monday 2nd July 2018 our French Club enjoyed sampling some french delicacies at our Cafe de Whittington. We welcomed their parents with a song and role play demonstration, then had fun serving their families when they ordered (in French) off the menus!

Le Chateau.

On Wednesday 4th July, Year 5 went up to Nunnery Wood High School to watch a performance of 'Le Chateau' (The Castle) with Year 7 and 8 pupils. We spotted some familiar faces (former Whittington pupils) in the audience who made us feel very welcome!

It was an entertaining, enjoyable and interactive performance that the children thoroughly enjoyed -  they especially liked  it's historical context and the slapstick comedy that brought the story to life!

Caitlin even got to go onto the stage to represent our school and be a part of the action! Bravo!

RGS Language and Culture Morning

A group of our Year 5 pupils were invited to the Royal Grammar School Worcester to take part in a Language and Culture morning on Wednesday 27th June 2018.

During their French lesson, they were learning how to talk about the rooms in 'Ma Maison' (My house). They then went on to design their dream houses, using bilingual dictionaries to add in all their designer extras e.g un jacuzzi, un salle au cinema!

The children really enjoyed their time at RGS, especially at break-time when they got to sample some European delights! A huge thank you to Mrs Kilburn for making them feel so welcome and confident to have a go at using the new vocabulary!
